ASUS keeps stealing the show at this year’s CeBIT - after their AIRO “folding laptop” demonstration, they hit us again with a proof-of-concept of their new “Green” LCD monitors, which eliminates the need for a video cable - wireless! I hesitate to call it a fully wireless display, as the power cable is still there, but hey, one giant step at a time.
ASUS says that the monitor still doesn’t have a model number of ship date, as they are waiting to see if the currently-used ultra wideband (UWB) standard has any sort of staying power, or will be replaced by a different one. The currently displayed display is just to show that it can be done, quite well actually - quality-wise, there’s no apparent difference with wired displays.
While these not-so-wireless monitors might not have any great applicability right now, but with wireless power technology seemingly on the horizon, it may not be too long before we become completely untethered…!
