In case you haven’t seen enough of Boxee lately, in their ongoing web-TV content wars with heavyweight provider, Hulu, here’s another fresh tidbit from the Boxee camp: there’s a shiny new iPhone app in town, and it’s name is Boxee Remote. No, you can’t stream media or get remote access to your account from your phone, but you can use your iPhone in place of the Apple remote to navigate around Boxee. It can be a bit slow to connect, but seems to do the job decently, and since it operates via network, as opposed to IR, you don’t have to be standing in front of your computer for it to work.
The interface can be used in gesture mode, which entails moving a Boxee icon around the screen to direct the navigation or good old, buttons mode, where the buttons mimic the functionality of those found on the Apple remote. The app has apparently been sitting in Apple’s approval queue for quite some time now (no surprise there), and has landed in the app store, just in time to woo back users that may be disgruntled by the flakey nature of Boxee’s Hulu content as of late.
Although it would be nice to see more functionality worked into future versions, Boxee users will likely appreciate the offering, and even better, its price tag: $0.00.

I think Boxee could be improved upon, but for now, it’s definitely one of the most elegant solutions for bringing web-based media and network-wide high def video management to your TV...raw XMBC isn’t quite as user friendly, and popcorn hour is versatile, but clunky. I love that there is so much active development going on too, so it’s constantly evolving. very cool. Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome, ZT!
that half-battery in the screenshot is the iphone in a nutshell - so much potential with things like this boxee app, yet tethered by the limitations of inadequate battery life. good thing this app is free!
glad to have you on ZT christine!
Hrm not a fan of Boxee but I like the icon. lol
Welcome aboard btw.
