Remember how terrifyingly awesome the giant tarantula from Wild Wild West was? Besides the freakin’ hugeness and fireball spitting part of it, I always thought the joint articulations and hydraulics were pretty cool. Based on kinetic sculptures of Theo Jansen, a team at the University of Louisiana have taken us one step closer to robotic arachnid hell with their Cajun Crawler, a Segway-esque moving platform that uses mechanical legs to move around.
Never mind that they’ve built a set of legs to do the work of your own set of legs, but their feet of engineering is impressive all the same.
