The iPhone/iPod Touch OS 3.0 software is out! Just head to iTunes and click upgrade with your device plugged in. Make sure to backup all your info before your device restores itself.

It’s free for iPhone users but $9.99 for iPod Touch folks.

Here are some of the key features in the new software:

Copy/paste:

The iPhone finally gets copy/paste. Just double tap the screen with any kind of text open. You can also copy/paste from your photo library, which is great when sending multiple pictures in an email.

Speed
:

I’ve noticed a lot of the apps are opening a faster and keyboard isn’t lagging as much when typing notes or emails.

Spotlight Search:

The new software includes search in spotlight, which is one swipe left to right from your home page or access it by pressing the home button while you’re on the home page. It’s a great feature and easily allows you to find contacts, iPod songs, and other data on your iPhone.

Search within Apps:

Mail, Calendar and the iPod now have a search feature. The iPod and Mail search are great. Since Mail on the iPhone doesn’t group emails like Gmail, it’s much easier to find emails with the search feature. (Saves a lot of time, believe me.)

Landscape mode:

You won’t know how much easier it is to type entire emails with this feature until you’ve tried it. I actually wrote an entire Wordpress post and an email with only a few typos. Without landscape mode, I was prone to regular typos.

The option will be there when AT&T decides to

Auto login for Safari and Wi-Fi:

Safari will now remember your information when you return to a page, so you won’t have to type in the information again. The same goes for Wi-Fi locations such as Starbucks.

I went to Starbucks this morning and later in the afternoon to try out this feature and it worked. It saved all my info, logged in the background. I was using the WiFi within seconds.

New Native App:

Apple added a new native App, Voice memo. Now you can record conversations and blackmail people if you’d like. It’s not something I see myself using much but definitely handy.

MMS and Tethering:

AT&T doesn’t have an exact date yet or why they’re delaying the release of MMS and tethering but will be offered sometime this summer.

If you decide to upgrade your software, let us know how the process went, how long it took you, and what your favorite new features are.

Want to know what is really stupid? apple and att had mms working on the FIRST iphones but removed the feature for some untold reason.

Good for Apple. lol

What sucks though is at&t forgot to let their PAYING customers have tethering and MMS… looks like 3.0 was just an upgrade for copy and paste functions.

Yeah AT&T has been treating their customers like crap. They better stop or else if the iPhone exclusivity should ever end, they’re screwed.
