Yesterday we reported that Google Voice invites were being sent out to those who had requested an invite (which I did back in March).

What Google did with GrandCentral, the company Google acquired in 2007 and turned into Voice, was make acquiring the service easier and hassle free. Instead of invites that need to be sent to those who wanted the GrandCental service, Google is allowing those interested in their service to request an invite. For some the process of acquiring a GrandCentral account was a hassle, one that Google has made easier although the wait has taken some months now.

I requested the invite because it seems like something that’s worth having. I can’t afford a second phone line, so the Google Voice can keep my business and personal life in check, I won’t have to give out my personal line to any business contact.

There are two features I am really looking forward to, the ability to read voicemails as a transcript and listen before taking a call. Both of these features will allow me to get messages sent to my phone without actually having to pick up my phone. One of my pet peeves is receiving voicemails from friends and family when I’d much rather have that sent to me in a text format and return the call later.

The call management system on the Google Voice is alone worth looking into the service. The wait might turn some off but gadget and tech fans will be lining up for this service.
