The news of Michael Jackson’s death shut down Google for over 25 minutes today. Google actually thought they were being cyber attacked.
“The spike in searches related to Michael Jackson was so big that Google News initially mistook it for an automated attack,” R.J. Pittman, director of Product Management for Google, wrote in a blog post. “As a result, for about 25 minutes yesterday, when some people searched Google News they saw a ‘We’re sorry’ page before finding the articles they were looking for.”
Google also had the highest spike in mobile internet use in its history because of Jackson’s death. The searches spiked at 12pm Eastern Time, with most of the Google Trends relating to Michael Jackson searches.

I know I used Google for it. MJ for me still had ten years in him. To die at 50 is pretty young. ~____~
