Dell is about to be overthrown from its reign as the number two PC maker in the world by up and coming Acer, the Taiwan based company,
The New York Times is reporting that Acer is attempting to do what no foreign country has ever done, become the #2 PC manufacturer in the world by selling at low cost netbooks, laptops and desktops.
Dell, the current number #2 is attempting to copy Acer’s business model, sell to the consumer through retail shops rather than configure PC’s online or sell wholesale to businesses. Dell has always been known for its cheap computers in the workplace but the economy has prevented companies from buying new computers, hurting Dell’s business.
Acer also has a very good partnerships with retail shops in Europe and the United States and one of the best selling netbooks in the world, the Aspire One.
Acer has also been working on penetrating the smartphone market with upcoming handsets running on Google’s Android plaform. Whether or not entering the smart phone war ends up becoming a success, Acer has proven their business model is successful, which leads to the next question, if Acer takes over at #2, does this become the back breaker for Dell, one of the most revered and successful PC manufacturers in the last decade or so?
I’m not surprise. When Dell went from a small to a big company, they lost some of their clients because as usual with most computer technology driven companies, their customer service is TERRIBLE. Not having that made Dell suffer and the Acer has and is vastly taking its place.

i really like acer’s netbooks, so its no surprise that Dell is struggling to stay on the #2 spot.
