Scott Campbell of Aberdeen, Scotland last week decided to take his dad’s old Walkman for a spin. You remember those things don’t you? The spinning tape, the need to flip the tape to listen to side B? Well Scott’s experience was very impressing. (Scott’s quotes after the break)
The first surprise that hit Scott was the size of the the Walkman:
“My dad had told me it was the iPod of its day. He had told me it was big, but I hadn’t realised he meant THAT big. It was the size of a small book.”
But it didn’t end there, he compared the book size tape player to today’s range of colored iPods saying:
“When I saw it for the first time, its colour also struck me. Nowadays gadgets come in a rainbow of colours but this was only one shade - a bland grey.”
Finally Scott decided to give a verdict on his experience with the Walkman:
“From a practical point of view, the Walkman is rather cumbersome, and it is certainly not pocket-sized, unless you have large pockets. It comes with a handy belt clip screwed on to the back, yet the weight of the unit is enough to haul down a low-slung pair of combats.”
Scott my boy, one day when you’re older your son will look at the iPod Touch in your drawer and wonder in amazement how you ever used such a device, as he tells his brain controlled iPod to skip to the next song.

i used to have a walkman and cd players and they were cool back then, but now times have changed and i can’t see myself using these anymore.
hahahaaa! That is so old school. For a second, I thought “whats a walkman?” I remember when I was a kid with my cd player carrying 20 cds with me in case I got bored on the train.
I still rock a CD Walkman, especially after Apple wouldn’t replace my iPod. I think both CD and Cassette Walkmans are great if one does not have a MP3-MP6 player that’s portable. Sure it is a hassle that I have to change the CD if I want to listen to someone else but at least I can listen to my music while walking everyday since I don’t have a car.

I still can’t believe people used to use Walkmans or even CD players! I would never be able to go back from my Ipod.
