Apple is continuing its iPhone domination worldwide. According to new numbers from Japan, the iPhone holds the #1 and #2 spot in the smartphone market. There are a number of reason behind the sudden popularity of the iPhone in a market no American company has had success penetrating.
Apple previously had problems penetrating the Japanese market due to concerns the iPhone wasn’t advanced enough for a country that’s always innovating its products and is the leader in gadgets and technology.
One of the major reasons for why the iPhone has suddenly become popular in Japan could be the lack of innovation from other companies. Most smartphone manufacturers are sticking to updating the basics such as camera and specs without any real innovation on the design front. Japanese iPhone carrier softbank has also stated they have lowered the price on plans and hardware, making the iPhone more affordable for its customers.
Following the #1 and #2 slots held by the iPhone models are NTT DoCoMo Aquos SH-04A, designed by Sharp and the Blackberry Bold which ranks sixth in smartphone sales.
Smartphone sales have increased by 80 percent in Japane this year alone.

@mattsn: Really? Overatted? Sounds like you’ve never used one and/or you can’t afford one. Jealousy is ugly.
