I guess you don’t think the cost of research and development should be considered…
Besides, everything that can be purchased costs the seller less than they sell it for. I thought that was obvious. But at least your research for this article cured your boredom for a while…

Well it may be obvious for some products that they cost of manufacturing is cheaper, that’s not the case with everything. microsoft took a loss with the xbox360 for years, same with Sony and the PS3. The creators of Netbooks make very little money per netbook. They make it by selling them in the millions. While it may be obvious, it doesn’t hurt to know the actual price of an item. This is just info on costs per device, R&D is not done per device but as a company.
I like this article. Now I can appreciate the companies a bit more. I wonder since a good chunk of the companies have moved their factories to India, are they getting paid efficiently and getting the benefits they deserve from breathing all that lead? Something to think about.
Thanks for compiling this list. Great info that consumers should have, especially in this economy. Having said that, look at what statistics are showing, http://bit.ly/oLIPG
Thanks,

Keep in mind that with the kindle you are not only buying the device you are buying rights to use their book buying network. Whispernet was it? And once you do pay for that also, you don’t have to pay for the network any more. Think of it like a subscription.
Bad layout. Put a line between the products so viewers don’t get lost between items and can easily match up pricing information when they get below the fold.
@Siralop7 - These factories have been in China and some other southeast Asian countries like Malesia, Phillipines, Taiwan, Korea etc. for long time. India does the software part but I doubt how much of these product s/w are done in India. Indian companies do lot of enterprise s/w stuff.
Since you touch on Xbox 360 & PS3 cost, you should cover Wii too: Bing says 158.30 (less than the retail price, different model than Microsoft & Sony.)
I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

the price of phone manufacturing is not surprising. the price of game system components should be lower by now since they’ve been out for years.
