Sprint has taken a difference strategy with their new Palm Pre not allowing Pre sales over the phone. The official word from Sprint is so Sprint “can focus inventory in sales channels where customers have the best opportunity to experience Ready Now, and we can deliver the best purshasing experience.”

I wonder why Sprint has decided to take this approach considering the Pre has been getting rave reviews. They may be taking the Apple iPhone approach, allowing a representative to walk through customers who might have problems with using the phone. Many customers might be new to the smartphone scene and need someone to help them out with the multi-touch features along with the quirks that make the Palm Pre as good as it is.

Sprint is known to offer deals when chatting on the phone, but that may be thrown out the window now that the Pre is no longer available through the phone. Whether or not Sprint was actually offering any deals for the Pre (we don’t know of any), the comforts of ordering from your home is now gone. But then again who calls to buy a device when its available online and in stores. The internet age is here and if you know about the Pre and smartphones then you should have access to the internet to order a Palm Pre. If not then how else did you hear about it?
