Google announced some of their partnerships for their upcoming Google Chrome OS but left out a few key companies. Acer, Adobe, ASUS, Freescale, HP, Lenavo, Qualcomm, and Texas Instruments are all going to be a big part in Google’s foray into their Chrome operating system. Two of the bigger players left out of the partnership deals seem to be Dell and Intel.
Although Dell has been slightly late to the netbook craze, they’re still a leading manufacturer of PCs and notebooks (#2 in the world), so it’s surprising to see Google not have Dell on board. For all we know, they may be working on something behind the scenes and will probably have them on board without any major announcements. But until that happens, some will be wondering why Google doesn’t have Dell on their list of partnerships.
Acer on the other hand might benefit from this partnership than the other companies. Acer wants to take over as the number 2 PC maker in the world and probably will have a shot with Google’s help. If the Google Chrome OS does become a hit and Dell is not on board, it’ll be a big blow to one of America’s most prominent PC manufacturers, while propelling Acer, the one time small PC company from Taiwan, into a household name.
