There’s a rumor swirling around that AT&T will finally allow tethering on the iPhone in September and will cost $55 per month. AT&T has delayed the launch of tethering after Apple’s 3.0 release but hadn’t given any word besides later “in the summer”.
Hopefully the cost of the tethering would be lowered but knowing AT&T, they’d probably want to squeeze every dime out of iPhone customers. Many were hoping AT&T would charge around 30-40 dollars for the tethering service but based on rumors on Crunchgear, it may be around $55. Good Luck If you’re an iPhone Customer, that’s another $40-$55 dollars tacked on to your already high monthly bill.

Well, think I’m the happiest iPhone costumer in the world, since my cel carrier allows internet Tethering free of charge. You should complain to AT&T since the internet sharing is an iPhone built-in function and it only depends on a simple configuration file provided by AT&T to work. Except the data transfer, it won’t cost a thing to AT&T provide this service, since all the technology necessary to make this work is in the iPhone. AT&T will make huge amounts of money in exploring everybody’s ignorance about these tecnical knowledge. That’s such an ugly thing to do, AT&T.
Yeah with all of at&t’s extra cost. I wish another service had the iPhone. Een after 10 years of being a loyal Cingular / AT&T customer I am thinking of changing.
This is major BS!! we already pay for “unlimited” internet. If this is true then someone should throw a major lawsuit against them for false advertisement or double charging or something! If this is true then i’m going to finally break down and jailbreak my iphone. Seriously…. What does it cost them to tether? people using more of their “unlimited” internet that they already pay for?!! I formally declare shenenigans and all you other iphone users should too. If they could support the traffic then they shouldn’t have misrepresented their services.
Are you kidding me? Are they on crack? With a jail broken IPhone you can tether for FREE using PDANet from the Cydia app store. Been using it for months now with no problem!

I’m certainly hoping that it’s a “combined” offer (as Leje suggests)… I currently pay $50.00/month for another phone line with Sprint, which includes unlimited data (I tether a Sprint Mogul (HTC 6800) to my laptop via WMWifiRouter). That’s 5 bucks less, AND I get free incoming minutes, 200 minutes a month, unlimited texts, AND unlimited data… Oh, yeah… and my internet speeds are about twice as fast, too. In fact, I often set up the router on the phone and use WiFi to connect my iPhone to Sprint’s 3G network… and it’s FAST.
