Many phones have been on the hunt to kill the iPhone but no one wants it more then the Blackberry. Apple has take a lot of thunder away from the usually solid RIM’s lineup of Blackberry phones. But now Blackberry is competing against Apple in an area Apple is simply dominating, the App Stores. Blackberry has announced that their App World is currently holding 2,000 apps, which pales in comparison to the 53,000 plus apps the Apple App Store currently has but is a lot compared to what they previously offered.

The number of apps have doubled since the App World’s release just about 3.5 months ago. According to vice president of Global Alliances, Jeff McDowell, the number is sure to rise when App World goes live in France, Italy, Germany, and Spain this month. Although McDowell refused to say exactly how many apps were downloaded, he did say that RIM was very happy with the response. The News is great for Blackberry customers, who finally get some extra apps to choose from but if Blackberry is only satisfied with 2,000 apps, they’re going to be screwed. Need to set your sights higher boys!
