Last night when I least expected it, I received my Google Voice invite. I was excited and started to set it up. In the process I forgot to take some screen shots (Dohhh!). I realized by the 3rd Step, so that’s where it all starts. I just have to say, playing with it has been great. I hope you enjoy the screen shots and short review (longer one coming soon).

This was the original email in my inbox (click to enlarge):

Google Voice Welcome Message:

Google Voice Voicemail (From my brother) and Text Message (I texted myself. Sad, I know) (click to enlarge) :

Google couldn’t transcribe what my brother said in the voicemail but they made a pretty good effort.

The mobile version of it works on the iPhone. You can text or even make calls. Check it out here:

Without an iPhone App, when you want to make a call, you are required to call yourself, (asked for password you set up earlier) then dial the persons number (yes, you have to memorize it). If you want to send a text, the only option right now is the mobile version or the full desktop version but you can reply to a text using your Google Voice number. Once you get someone to send you a text, you can just keep replying to them. On their phone it’ll come up as a text from your Google Voice number. On your phone it’ll have the name of the contact, although a number like the Google SMS version on G-Chat shows up at the header. Just ignore it, it’s not big deal as long as the name of the contact is in the body of the text.

For some reason, Google gave me $0.10 to use for an international call I guess. They have the rates on the bottom which start at $0.02 a minute.

So, if you’ve got your Google invite, then you’ll love the Google Voice service. I’m absolutely loving it. I have yet to check to see if AT&T is charging me for sending the text messages, the AT&T site was under maintenance when I tried to check.

Now I’m just hoping Apple and AT&T don’t ban an iPhone Google Voice App.

Will have a review of the entire service soon. Stay Tuned.
