Remember when the Palm Pre was released and everyone was super excited to find out that it synced with Apple’s iTunes? Yeah, the good old days right? Well, Apple wasn’t happy about it and soon enough they did something to resolve this issue. Apple released the update, iTunes 8.2.1, that fixes some bugs and “it addresses an issue with verification of Apple devices” aka no more Palm Pre syncing.
Apple had previously warned Pre users that an update would come soon for “devices falsely pretending to be iPods”. It makes sense for Apple, they don’t want customers who can’t make up their minds between the Palm Pre and the iPhone, to have another reason to go with the Palm Pre. Plus, it was a slap in Apple’s face by the guys who put together the Pre, former Apple iPod Executives.
There’s easily ways to get around this - don’t update your iTunes, use DoubleTwist, or just wait for Palm to come up with an update, that will once again allow syncing through iTunes. Whatever the case, customers have options on getting around this problem, while Apple and Palm will continue to play their game of trying to one-up each other.
