Disney has not only taking control of our childhood innocence with their many harmless creatures and beasts but are also taking control of the Japanese market by partnering up with Panasonic, to sell their movies through a microSD card.
The movies sold in Japan will come bundles with a DVD and a pre-recorded microSD card. The profit of the Walt Disney Company all depends on who the customer is. If the market for pre-recorded movies on microSD cards doesn’t catch on then it’ll be pointless for the companies to keep moving in this direction. Portable media is a huge step for technology and if Disney can tap into that, then it could end up becoming a ludicrous business for them.
This is a smart move on Disney’s part, if consumers buy into the microSD format, to take this to Japan because America is not exactly the place to come out with the latest technology. Japane tends to get them first with the rest of the world following afterward.
Panasonic and Disney are ready to start selling these bundles in November, for 4,395 Yen($52) which is 1,000 Yen($11) more than the DVD alone. Wondering which movies are being released first? Two adventure movies in the name of… “The Pirates of the Caribbean” and “National Treasure”.
