The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the FCC has decided to take a closer look at Apple’s recent dismissal of the Google Voice app from its App Store, as part of its bigger investigation into mobile cell phone carriers. They’re interested in who’s behind this recent Google Voice fiasco. Is it AT&T doing things behind the scene or is Apple’s fault?
In letters sent late Friday to the three companies, the FCC asked why Apple rejected the Google Voice application for the iPhone and removed related “third-party applications” from its store.
The letter also seeks information on how AT&T was consulted in the decision, if at all.
No matter what the FCC decides, it won’t force Apple to reconsider putting the Google Voice App in its App store, this is just so future events like this don’t happen again.
There wasn’t any word from Google, while Apple and AT&T reps declined to comment. Hopefully this will put some pressure on AT&T and Apple to release the Google Voice app and prevent future apps from being excluded from the app store just because AT&T and/or Apple feel like it.
