One year removed from college and I often find myself complaining about the loans. Every month when I have to send out the loan check, it hurts. One student decided to fight back and ended up suing her college for not helping her find a job after graduation.

Trina Thompson, a 27-year-old IT graduate, is suing her alma mater for over $70,000. She claims that Monroe College didn’t enough to help her find a job. I saw this story last night on the news and it irked me.

Colleges don’t guarantee a job after graduation. If that was the case, then every college graduate without a job would sure their school. Life isn’t that easy. Colleges are willing to help you get a job but ultimately the work and effort has to be made by the individual. It can opens doors for possible opportunities, but that doesn’t mean everything is guaranteed. I’ll be the first person to agree college may be the biggest scam in the world but if you think everything will be handed to you, you’re nuts.

Hopefully this won’t become a trend. Plus if I were an employer, this would be one person I wouldn’t hire just because they might decide to pull another stunt like this.
