Remember yesterday J&R posted pics of the upcoming Sony Readers with details, well Sony just made it official today. The official names for the Readers are the Pocket and Touch. The Pocket aka PRS-300, comes with a stylus, 5-inch screen, USB 2.0 and 512 MB internal memory. The Pocket will also be available in blue, silver and rose.

The Touch aka PRS-600, comes with memory stick/Duo and SD card slots, six inch touchscreen, no backlighting, comes with a stylus and will be available in 3 colors- red, black and silver.

Sony says there will be a WiFi version of the Readers coming soon but the current releases will be Mac compatible. The older models will also be Mac compatible with a firmware update. The Touch and Pocket will be available at the end of August for $299 and $199.

The price for both of these models are very competitive and lower than the previous Sony models. Although Sony is not offering wireless connection for the two models, the price on these devices will appeal to more people looking for a cheaper eReader. Sony has also lowered the price of their popular ebooks from $11.99 to $9.99. Can Sony finally make a dent in Kindle sales? We’ll have to see wait and see, although it’d be extremely difficult.
