Looks like text message will start saving lives. In Iowa, callers in distress can text for emergency help such as police, fire or EMT. To get the location of the sender (you can’t really figure that out through a text), the caller will have to response to a request for location.
Only one carrier is currently backing this new plan. It’s a local carrier, iWireless, an affiliation of T-Mobile. Other carriers are soon looking to join in this service. This new service will help deaf or hearing impaired folks contact emergency services. Updates services will include video and pictures messages. This could end up being a life saving advancement in emergency services.
