Looks like the iPhone is going to make deposits easier now, at least for one bank. USAA, a privately held bank and insurance company, will be updating its iPhone app to let customers deposit checks by taking pictures of both side of the check.
Currently the feature will only be available to customers who have insurance through the bank or are eligible for credit. The NY Times also says that the deposit will be just like any other deposit and won’t require customers to send in the check either. The pictures alone will do the trick.
It’s things like this that make having a smartphone worthwhile. Now if only Chase or Bank of America could update their app with these features, I’d never have to run to the bank every again to deposit a check. I’d definitely use this service. I’m not so sure others would, considering I see many people who stand on line even though they can deposit checks and withdraw money from an ATM. If people are afraid to deposit a check into the ATM, something like this would be too high tech for them.
Would you give this a try if your bank had this service available to its customers?

The only thing that i would be afraid of would be that after i take pictures and submit it, something goes wrong and I threw the check away already. That’s about it.
