Sony announced today, the release of a new eReader, the Sony Daily Edition eReader with 3G wireless service and wireless syncing at the New York Public Library. The new eReader will have updated 3.0 software and a new partnership with the New York Public Library, that will allow readers to borrow ebooks up to 29 days. But the NYPL isn’t the only library that’s offering content. Content from the Chicago Public Library is also available through Overdrive.com.
The Library content is through a new service called Library Finder. You type in your bar code, check out ebooks and sync them to the Sony Reader. It will be both Mac and PC compatible.
Sony’s Daily Edition Reader will cost $399, offer’s a 7-inch touchscreen, wireless 3G service from AT&T, can sync wirelessly and will be available in December for $399.
We’ll have more once we get more information and, look for a post comparing the Sony device to the Kindle 2. Will it be able to compete and possibly over take the Kindle?
