Sony’s been getting a lot of press the past week because of the PS3 Slim and the price cut on the current Playstation 3, but Sony’s head of Computer Entertainment, Kazuo Hirai, revealed in an interview that the PS3 Motion Controller is coming in Spring 2010.

Hirai let the motion controller news slip during the interview when he discussed Sony’s 10-year success plan, which the PS3 Slim was intended to help bring back some buzz. Of course there’s reasons behind why Sony hasn’t yet released the Motion Controller, software and games. There aren’t any games that’ll work with the controller and a new software would be needed to make it compatible with the games. Releasing the controller without games or tested hardware would push Sony back, which something they can’t afford to do.

The upcoming PS3 Slim will boost PS3 sales from anywhere between 40-60%. That’s according to analysts at NPD. That’s a significant jump in sales but that’s to be expected with a more slimmer and revamped game system. Even with the better, sleeker and cheaper PS3 Slim, Sony is still losing money on the console.

According to GamesIndustry.biz, during a Q&A session, Hirai answered “yes” when asked if Sony was still losing money manufacturing the Playstation 3 console. That’s very surprising considering Sony’s CFO had claimed that the console’s manufacturing costs were down by 70%. This means Sony will have to come up with a solid motion controller to make up for the losses they’re suffering from the Playstation game console.
