Apple has not confirmed September 9th as the day for the Apple iPod event but Appleinsider is saying that’s the day we can expect Apple to roll out new iPods. The new iPod Touch will offer a camera to keep it ahead of the curve and make it resemble the iPhone more and more.
With the new design and updated features, we can expect a higher capacity iPod Touch with a cheaper price point. How do we know this? It’s simple, just take a look at previous iPod and iPhone prices and you’ll easily get an idea of how much a 64GB iPod Touch could cost.
The first generation iPod Touch prices and capacity:
- 8GB for $299
-16GB for $399
The second generation iPod Touch prices were slightly cheaper with a 32GB model included:
- 8GB for $229
-16GB for $299
-32GB for $399
With those previous price points and capacities, we can expect Apple to drop the 8GB model and introduce a 64 GB model for around $399 and drop the prices on the 32 and 16GB model. This is very similar to what Apple did with the iPhone.
They weeded out the 4 GB iPhone (can you believe we had a 4GB iPhone?!) and had a 8GB and 16 GB model. Then with the iPhone 3G, Apple released only a 8 and 16GB model and now with the 3GS, Apple only has a 16GB and 32GB model. Prices on the iPhones dropped over the years as well, even though users were still attached to a two-year AT&T contract.
Of course we can’t forget Microsoft’s Zune HD. The Zune HD is relatively new but has been getting good buzz and will most definitely force Apple to drop prices on their iPod Touch models, even though they’ll come with a camera feature. The Zune HD offers similar capacity models for cheaper prices than the iPod Touch:
- 16GB for $220
- 32GB for $290
With that info in mind, we can expect a 16GB iPod Touch to cost around $220, a 32GB model for $299 and a 64GB model for $399. These prices will continue to keep the iPod Touch the best music player in the market.
