Japan’s largest phone manufacturer, Sharp, better start looking in the rear view mirror because NEC, Hitachi and Casio are creeping up from behind. According to news out of Japan, NEC, Hitachi and Casio are all in talks to merge their cell phone business into one massive division.

The media reports out of Japan are saying NEC is hoping to join a pact already created between Casio and Hitachi. The new joint venture is a way to cut costs and will be looking to get started sometime in 2010, most likely around April. Hopefully this means these companies can crank out phones to other parts of the world faster.
