Looks like Spider-Man will be hanging out with Mickey Mouse more often than he wants. The Walt Disney Company has agreed to acquire Marvel Entertainment and all its superheroes. The total cost of the acquisition will be around $4 billion.

Disney will now have access to over 5,000 Marvel characters, some of them which include house hold names like Spider-Man, X-Men, and Iron-Man. This is what Marvel’s CEO, Ike Perlmutter, had to say:

“Disney is the perfect home for Marvel’s fantastic library of characters given its proven ability to expand content creation and licensing businesses. This is an unparalleled opportunity for Marvel to build upon its vibrant brand and character properties by accessing Disney’s tremendous global organization and infrastructure around the world.”

Basically he’s saying, we’ll let Disney turn our characters into little whimps so they can join Disneyland and look like idiots. As a fan of recent Marvel movies, I’m sad and disappointed they decided to sell their property to Disney. Today is a sad sad day for Marvel comic fans but not so much for the stockholders.
