Snow Leopard is hitting store shelves tomorrow and reviews have been piling on from notable tech bloggers. To make your life easier, we’re going to bring them all in one place, so you won’t have to keep searching for different opinions. More »

Walt Mossberg, a well known personal technology blogger for the Wall Street Journal, made a slip up yesterday in his Apple Snow Leopard OS X review. During his review, he gave out this tip:

“But here’s a tip: Apple concedes that the $29 Snow Leopard upgrade will work properly on these Tiger-equipped Macs, so you can save the extra $140.”

Basically he’s telling current Tiger uses, you won’t have to buy Leopard in order to upgrade to Snow Leopard. While it’s a useful tip for many Tiger users, it’s illegal in the minds of Apple. But Walt is not the only one supporting this claim. More »

MSI’s Wind Top AE: sexy, compact, touchscreen and affordable all-in-one?

I have to say, this is a — excuse me — a damn fine looking all-in-one PC. Why, if it weren’t for the somewhat out-of-place strip of leather, I might just nab one of these Wind Top AE2010 things right now. Actually, I have no use for all-in-ones, but for the budget-and-design-conscious PC user, this thing looks like the holy grail. Even the specs are nice…CrunchGear

Mossberg Recommends Illegal Use of Snow Leopard Install Disc

I was surprised by one line in Walt Mossberg’s otherwise predictable review of Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard:

“But here’s a tip: Apple concedes that the $29 Snow Leopard upgrade will work properly on these Tiger-equipped Macs, so you can save the extra $140.”

I know Apple’s PR people are having a heart attack right now reading that. They don’t like it when influential journalists suggest violations of the EULA. In fact, they generally label that stuff as “illegal,” and I am sure many lawyers would agree that it is…Gizmodo

Snow Leopard review

Snow Leopard. Even the name seems to underpromise — it’s the first “big cat” OS X codename to reference the previous version of the OS, and the list of big-ticket new features is seemingly pretty short for a version-number jump. Maybe that’s why Apple’s priced the 10.6 upgrade disc at just $29 — appearances and expectations matter, and there’s simply not enough glitz on this kitty to warrant the usual $129…Engadget

The Google Phone’s Ad Campaign Bites, Here’s How to Give It Teeth

Today, T-Mobile rolls out its largest ad campaign ever to tout the new Google phone, the myTouch 3G. Fantastic news boys and girls — Motorola is holding an Android event on September 10th where it will unveil the Sholes along with a bunch of other Google OS-related goodies! Apple iPod Touch 64GB for $399? It’s Possible With Help From The Zune HD

Apple has not confirmed September 9th as the day for the Apple iPod event but Appleinsider is saying that’s the day we can expect Apple to roll out new iPods. The new iPod Touch will offer a camera to keep it ahead of the curve and make it resemble the iPhone more and more.

CrunchGear has screen shots of what looks like the Apple Tablet. The screen shots are all of movies, so that may be one of the focus of the Apple Tablet. There’s also a virtual keyboard on the screen. Crunchgear has not confirmed these pictures are of the actual tablet but their source claims these are early screen shots of what Steve Jobs wants in the upcoming Apple Tablet. For more screen shots, check out Crunchgear here.

Gundam is a big deal in Japan. So big that a couple decided to get married in front of one and bow down to it. Japan’s T&G wedding planners held a contest to see who would be getting married in front of the giant robot in Tokyo. One lucky couple, out of 500 entrants, took their vows in front of Gundam.

With their new born baby, Seira, named after a character in the series, they snapped pictures with family and friends and bowed in unison to the gigantic Gundam robot. The bride has to be a Gundam fan because no woman would ever agree to get married in public bowing to a giant TV show character. But then again for a free wedding, does it really matter? You can see pictures of the amazing ceremony here. More »

MetroPCS has finally come to NYC and now they’re adding a Windows Mobile smartphone, the Samsung SCH-i220 Code. MetroPCS has been promoting themselves throughout the city but now with a WinMo phone, they can attract a different budget friendly crowd, on that wants a smartphone without the expensive plans attached with them.

The phone runs Windows Mobile on a QVGA display with EVDO, QWERTY keyboard and 2.0 megapixel camera. It’s not your best smartphone in the market but for MetroPCS, this is a good start. Who knows if they’re plans start to catch on and more folks buy the smartphones, other manufacturers might want to jump on board. More »

The USB octopus is giving neat freaks and gadget lovers a chance to rejoice. The USB octopus is probably the single cable you’ll need to run all of your gadgets and it only takes up one port on your computer.

Protecting your laptop has just gotten a lot easier and more fashionable. “The Laptop Case Against Crime” disguises itself as a foreign newspaper so that no one would steal it. The case is made out of plastic fabric and has a zip lock fastener to seal and protect your computer. It is available in five different mastheads so you get to choose what language you’d like to trick people with.

The case also comes with a removable carry chain, which newspapers don’t have and won’t help to hide your computer at all. These are a fashion statement than crime protection because these days, thieves steal just about anything and when is the last time you saw a 2 inch thick newspaper? This piece of fashionable plastic will cost you $86. Sorry, not my cup of tea. More »

Looks like Nokia is planning to make a splash outside of gadgets and technology and into banking. Yup, that’s right, Nokia wants to be the world’s largest mobile bank. Nokia is planning to do it through a program recently announced called “Nokia Money.” Nokia Money will let mobile users transfer money, pay bills, shop, among other things, with their mobile handsets.

Nokia is looking beyond just the developed nations to market Nokia Money. They’re hoping to fill in the gap of over 2.4 billion mobile phone users who do not have a bank account or any kind of banking service, majority of them living in a third world country. Nokia wants to step into that void and change the banking system by allowing customers to perform basic banking tasks on their mobile phones. More »

The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that Steve Jobs is back at Apple and working hard on his latest masterpiece, the Apple Tablet. That’s not very surprising. We know Apple is working on a new tablet and of course Jobs is the one in charge of it. He was in charge of the iPhone, and so, you’d expect him to be on top of Apple’s latest product. But that’s not what caught my eye.

What caught my eye during the article was about how the moral of the employees changed after Jobs’ return. Many are having to readjust to working for a guy who does not talk to people and expects flawless results. Those working with Jobs on the Apple Tablet probably wished he hadn’t come back. This is what some had to say about working with Jobs after his return: More »

Depositing and withdrawing cash will be a hoot now, thanks to the Cockney-rhyming ATM. A firm that operates ATM’s in the UK is installing these fun ATM’s in areas at the East End of London.

For the next three months, five ATM’s owned by the Bank Machine will be using cockney rhyming slang. You can “Balance on Charlie Sheen” or “Sausage and Mash No Receipt”, which basically means that you don’t need a receipt. This will be very hard for tourists to understand and will probably get them all mixed up. I mean, if I was trying to deposit some money, why on earth would I balance it on Charlie Sheen first? Snow Leopard packing antivirus software?

If the online chatter is to be believed, Apple’s very soon to be released Snow Leopard has in its code new protection for fighting malware. According to the picture above corroborated by other online reports, a DMG downloaded by Safari was checked by the OS and found to contain the “RSPlug.A” Trojan. The system promptly suggests you eject the disk image to avoid damage…Engadget

Well, they got off to a good start, but Rapid Repair has been passed up by iFixit in the race to tear an unsuspecting PS3 Slim to pieces. What’s in there? Well, apparently, the whole thing is taken up by an enormous fan and the Blu-ray drive. Where’s the PS3?! Under the fan, I suppose…CrunchGear

If your laptop doesn’t sport a nice built in web cam like the Macs or Vaios, then Elecom’s multicolored designer web cams are the way to go. The UCAM-DLC300T Series is a USB camera that has up to 3 megapixels and attaches instantly onto any standard laptop screen. Not only do these colorful web cams work on the laptops, they also work on the Sony PlayStation 3 and allow 30 fps image transmission.

These look very nice but the color options are very limited and the ones that are offered would look very odd on a computer, not counting black of course. Available in white, black, pink, and sky-blue, the UCAM-DLC300T Series are compatible with both Mac and PC. You can get yours for 10,250 Yen ($108) here. More »
