The Motorola ROKR E1 was Apple’s first foray into the cellular phone market back in the day when Macs still had PowerPC processors and the Motorola Razr was the most popular handset. It was basically a candybar phone made by Motorola that had an iTunes player and the ability to sync to the iTunes desktop client.
Leading up to its launch in September 2005, there was a lot of buzz surrounding Apple’s collaboration with Motorola; but when the device actually landed, it was a complete dud. People found that the interface is extremely slow and clumsy, the 100 song limit makes any iPod much better, and the overall feature set didn’t really stand out from other phones on the market. I have actually only seen a dozen or so in the wild. More »
Here is something to watch while you wait: A great 8 minute overview posted by Google. Don’t know what Wave is? Watch the video!
Oh boy oh boy! Batman fans across the world will be rejoicing knowing there is an actual Batmobile out there in the wild. A man from Sweden spent $1 million and 20,000 hours putting together an exact replica of the Batmobile built on a 1973 Lincoln Continental chassis.
It looks absolutely amazing, and has gadgets to boot. It has a machine guns, video cameras, height-adjustable bodywork and even a Plasma TV. It doesn’t get any better than that. Check out more pics and a video of the Batmobile after the break. More »
I’ll be the first to tell you that I like Apple products. I own an iMac, an iPhone, and my siblings own iPods. The products just work and we’re big fans but this next next video just makes me embarrassed to even say I’m a Mac fan. It’s people like this that many people hate, and then generalize thinking all Mac fans are “hippsters” or fanboys. Take a look at the video after the break and tell us if you’d be embarrassed to be a Mac fan after watching it. More »
As many of you are probably aware, HP released its new line of Envy notebooks this month. I have to admit, the specs are really enticing: Core i7 processor, ATI Mobility Radeon 4830 graphics, long-lasting battery and Beats by Dr. Dre audio. Why don’t I like it then?
You see, when I think of a MacBook, I think of elegant design. When I think of a ThinkPad, I think of a sturdy, business oriented machine that will fit well into a work environment. When I think of an Alienware, I think of a flashy, mean looking gaming machine. Each strong brand has a distinct brand identity. When I see a Lamborghini from the distance, I don’t mistake it for a Volvo. More »
Yesterday, while on the Apple App Store, I came across the new Zipcar app. Surprised that it was there, I took a look at it and noticed some cool features. The free iPhone app not only lets you find and reserve cars, but apparently it can unlock your car from the iPhone app.
The app will also provide directions to the Zipcar, if you’re not familiar with an area and even honk to find out which car it is. I haven’t used Zipcar yet, but am definitely looking into it to drive my sister up to college this upcoming New Year. If the app does it what its supposed to, it’s a pretty sophisticated app. If you’re already a Zipcar user, you can get the app from the Apple iTunes store here.
This device was created for those architects out there who just love to stare at their tools all day. The measuring tape watch concept has three criss crossing bands of yellow tape which create what looks like the face of a watch. The minutes run in a vertical line while the hours and date cross behind that on the other two bands of tape. The measuring tape is designed in different colors, the standard yellow and black, all black (which is by far my favorite), and blue with silver and white.
While this would not be one of the easiest watches to read time on, it is a great fashion statement for that architect deep within. After all, it is only a concept and could get smaller and more fashionable in later models. To see some of the other colors, check them out after the break. More »
Digital cameras are slowly disappearing from the market, being replaced by faster and more efficient camera phones that could do the job even better. Here comes one of the first phones that could replace a digital camera, sporting a 12-megapixel camera, the Samsung SCH- W880.
On one side, the phone looks identical to that of a digital camera, while the other side holds a standard looking Samsung phone. The SCH - W880 has a 3.3 inch AMOLED display with 800×480 resolution, 4 GB of built in storage, T-DMB (Rumored to ship with WiFi and GPS later), and the 12-megapixel camera with 3X optical zoom which records 720P HD video. The rumored Apple tablet will be getting a lot of competition from Microsoft’s new Courier tablet PC, if it should ever get released. In the video from Gizmodo (also after the break), you can see all of the features of the new double screened courier tablet and how each of them operates.
The leaked video also focuses on one of the main features of the Courier, the “infinite journal”. The infinite journal is a note taking app that is essentially endless and which resembles that of the iPhone notetaking app. You can type and add as much information as you can onto the device and it will be able to store it, allowing the user to later publish it straight to a site or a PowerPoint. This might just be the week of crappy Wii accessories. Today we’ve got yet another: the Darth Vader Nintendo Wii Sensor Bar Holder. Thats right. It isn’t even a sensor bar, just a sensor bar holder. I don’t know who would shell out 50 dollars for an accessory you don’t event need, officially licensed or not.
Unless you are as Star Wars obsessed as this guy. In that case you might just have no choice but to shell out the $49.99 per unit for one or two or three. You can preorder it for $49.99 to receive it in November.

From Ningin: The Sony ps3 just announced their new console, a slim edition. But Square Enix decided to up the ante with an enhanced white version designed with a graphic of Lightning, (name of main antagonist) in PINK. Hey at least your wife will approve of the purchase. “Oh that’s a cute little box.” More »
Rumors are continuing to swirl about a possible iMac refresh but now the Mac Mini is also being included in those rumors. This comes after Apple has told their sales partners not to expect new shipments of the iMac and Mac Mini. That usually means there’s an update coming soon. There were already rumors going around about an iMac refresh and a Macbook plastic refresh, but the Mac Mini is definitely in need of an update, since it’s pretty much had the same design for over 3 years. The last update, in March, just wasn’t enough to make it a worthy purchase for $599. More »
You’ve got a big event coming up. Say, your best friend’s wedding, or your cousin’s baseball game. How do you share it with the people who aren’t there, or better yet, halfway across the world? Simple, just rent one of Livestream’s HD video streaming Livepack system that lets you stream a wireless signal from anywhere, even a moving vehicle and works perfectly without a strong Internet connection.
The Livepack is a complete system, carrying six 3G modems to carry the signal, an HD camera, FireWire cable and other needed accessories, all packed into a compact backpack. Livepack is a handy device but it comes at a hefty price. More »
Peek, the little startup that just turned 1 is offering a deal on its Peek email device. For $229 you can get a Peek Pronto with one year of service. For just $70 more, you can get the Peek Pronto with a lifetime of service. The Peek Pronto can handle up to 5 email accounts and offers services like unlimited texting, Twitter, Facebook, maps and weather. Its little brother the Peek only handles 3 accounts and lacks texting and social networks.
Now I’m not sure if you’ll be holding on to a device like this for more than 2 years; and I don’t know how many people would rather get one of these instead of a smartphone. Regardless, this is a great deal if you are in the market for a no frills email device or if you were planning buying and keeping a Peek for at least a year (Peek Pronto + 1 year service costs $300).
Amazon.com is offering up this deal and according to Peek, they have already sold out their first batch of devices. So, act quick if you want to get within the next couple weeks.
