Next week is Apple’s, now annual, iPod refresh event. Before any type of Apple event, there are always rumors floating around about the products at the event. Today’s rumor deals with the possible death of the iPod Classic. Marco Arment, the creator of Instapaper, has a few educated guesses for this year’s Apple iPod event and what it means for Apple.

According to Arment, some or all of the following will happen:

- Apple will kill off the iPod classic.

- Apple will stick a camera into the iPod touch, double the storage capacities, and adjust pricing: 8 GB for $149, 16 GB for $199, 32 GB for $249, 64 GB for $349.

Basically all this means that Apple wants to push the iPod Touch more than ever. The Touch is extremely key in getting new users to buy into the iPhone and even the highly rumored iPod Tablet because of its ability to tap into the Apple App Store. The more iPod Touch devices are sold, the bigger the App Store will become thus leading to more developer interaction, creativity and revenue for Apple.

Will any of Marco Arment’s predictions come true? Possibly, but one thing is for sure, the iPod Touch is the future standard iPod For Apple. All the other models have been tapped out in terms of new features and are almost getting boring. We’ll see if any of Marco’s predictions come true on Wednesday.
