Apple finally had its iPod event today and there really weren’t any surprises, except the iPod Touch didn’t get a camera. The new iPod Touch gets an increase in memory capacity and price drop, while the iPod Nano got a bigger screen, camera and a few other small updates. Here’s how they stack up:

The updated iPod Touch will be selling for the following prices and capacity.

- 8GB for $199
- 32GB for $299
- 64GB for $399

As you can see, Apple is not offering an updated 16GB version. The new iPod Touch uses the same CPU as the iPhone 3GS and is pretty much the same as the 2nd generation iPod Touch. The 3rd generation Touch was rumored to have a camera but Apple decided not to include one. It could have done wonders for the device but now it’s just an updated version, without anything really special.

Apple did include a camera on the 5th generation iPod Nano (but does not take any still pics, WTF?!), offered a bigger screen, FM radio tuner (with live pause) a pedometer, and VoiceOver (from the shuffle). The dimensions of the 5th generation iPod Nano are very similar to the 4th Generation Nano. 5th Generation iPod Nano shaved off 0.2 ounces, will last 24 hours during music playback and 5 hours of video (1 hour more than 4th generation). It’ll be available in 9 different rainbow colors with 2 Apple Store exclusive colors, yellow and red. They will cost $179 for 16GB and $149 for the 8GB.

Are you disappointed by today’s Apple iPod event? Were you surprised the Touch didn’t get a camera?

The iPod touch seems kind of bare without a camera. The Nano is such a odd music player to put a camera on.

iPod nano cannot take still pics? Strange.. Good to see a price drop and I was really expecting iPod Touch to have the camera not Nano
