Smart phones become more and more advanced each day and with it come security problems. For example, the handset could get lost but it can be easily replaced .The big problem would be the data on it. Once it’s lost, you can’t get it back. Good thing some manufacturers have created software that allows you to erase the data on your missing phone, so it is no longer accessible. Here are the top smart phone software that give you the option of remotely erasing your data.

Apple iPhone OS

Apple's MobileMe service is a great one, allowing Mac users to view their e-mail,contacts, and calendar entries right on their iPhone. But the one of the important features on it would have to be the remote wipe included with iPhone OS 3.0. This allows MobileMe users to remotely wipe all data on their lost iPhone. Simply tap Account > Find My iPhone > Remote Wipe. As long as your iPhone is connected to a network, you will be able to track your iPhone and remote wipe all data.

Palm Pre

With the Palm Pre, users are required to set up a Palm Profile whenever they activate a device. The Palm Profile allows users to back up their settings in case of an accident, receive updates over-the-air, or remotely erase a lost or stolen handset. In order to do this, just head to Palm.com/palmprofile, enter your profile email address and password, then Erase Device. In Palm’s latest web OS 1.1, remote wipe is supported, allowing IT administrations to do this with centrally managed Pres.

BlackBerry OS

This is one that would be big in the business world, BlackBerry’s Remote wipe feature. Every BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) handset allows for the user to remotely wipe all data through itsErase Data and Disable Handheld IT administration feature. IT administrations get an option where they get to either set the phone to factory default setting or the original IT policy as before. However, individual users can purchase an app for $9.95 that can remote lock and wipe devices, has GPS tracking, and can recover lost contacts.

Android OS

SMobile Anti-theft for Android is a $19.95 app that has GPS locating and remote wipe features for the T-Mobile G1, T-Mobile myTouch 3G or any other smartphone running on Android. This app can erase all data on the handset and any data on a SD card. The other, Security Shield for Android, costs slightly more expensive,at$29.95, and protects against viruses and other malware.

Windows Mobile

Although not ranked among the highest rated with the iPhone remote wipe and BlackBerry, the Windows Mobile My Phone feature lets users track their lost handsets via GPS and remote wipe all data on it. The service also backs up contacts, photos, text messages, and calendar entries to Microsoft’s storage cloud. The Microsoft Exchange Server can do the same for enterprise devices, alongside Absolute Software’s Computrace Mobile which can take car of enterprise devices runningWindowsMobile or BlackBerry and can also issue remote wipe commands.
