Google released their Push Gmail service on the iPhone yesterday. Upon hearing the news, I added the feature to my iPhone. It literally took me 10 seconds since I was already pushing my contacts and calendar information. After a few minutes of letting everything sync, I sent myself a few emails and to my disappointment, the Push Gmail service was not any faster than the current pull method Mail was getting emails on my iPhone.

I figured it wouldn’t be perfect in the beginning and so I gave it some time. Later that night, I received emails through the pull and push method and guess what? I had the same issue, the pull method received my emails faster than push.

Everyone seemed so excited about the service yesterday but I haven’t noticed any increase in speed or anything different than the way I was getting emails before on my iPhone. I’m curious to se if Google is planning to make this service any faster or if there is something going on that’s making the push service so slow. Hopefully there’s a solution to this problem, because I’m a big fan of the current syncing service for contacts and calendars.
