Apple’s new iPod Nano is causing some controversy in the gym. Many gyms are banning the iPod Nano with video because of its recording capability. Gyms are afraid of those dudes, you know those pervs that’ll just have the recorder on while their female counterpart wants to get her workout done. The Nano is small enough to hide almost anywhere.

What makes this whole thing interesting is the fact that many cell phones, especially the iPhone, can take pics and even record video but are they banned from the gym? If I were to take an iPhone 3GS into the gym and start recording, none of the employees would be able to tell unless I was blatantly holding it up, as if I’m taking a picture or recording.

The easiest solution is to make people who own an iPod Nano with video, to just put tape on the camera portion of the device. Worst case scenario is to make people check in their devices before working out. I wasn’t even aware most gyms didn’t allow cameras or video recorders but it does make sense. Maybe Apple should leave the 4th generation iPod Nanos on sale, but the chances of that are pretty slim.
