Environmentalists are going to rejoice when they hear that the new Green Watch created by French group Fing, is being brought out to the public. This watch allows regular citizens to turn into walking sensors, sending out environmental stats. Big cities already use certain specified spots to monitor environmental conditions but there is no help when it comes to areas with no coverage.
Dubbed, La Montre Verta (The Green Watch), it amplifies noise and ozone levels so that the troubled spots could get some help. Earlier this year, a pilot program was run using this technology followed by a larger test last week at the Picnic ‘09 conference.
At the conference, the watch proved to be a huge success and will be soon implemented in many places in Paris. Don’t worry users, it does tell time and has some stylish effects to it. Unfortunately, the watch will give off a false alarm if one should go into a noisy area or perhaps what the people of Amsterdam call “Coffee Shops”. No word yet on pricing or availability in the states.
