Apple, Nokia and Android UI’s all have a futuristic look, adding multiple features and stylish designs, but what they lack is the human side of social interaction. The newly designed Nokia concept smartphone UI was created by CIID (Copenhagen Institution for Interactive Design) students, Kevin and Tobias, on a two week study course with Nokia. The UI itself is as interactive and fun as playing with a puppy.

Dubbed, “Little Friend”, the UI concept was essentially designed for the user to interact with “live” avatars, the way someone would interact with a real person. The user could text people in groups of avatars standing side by side or put that special someone on a cloud.

Avatars can be designed when a new contact is added, making it that much easier to make friends. Although the concept UI may have too much of a childish feel for some users, it puts that touch of human back into the world of gadgets. Kevin and Tobias’ design proves there is nothing wrong with having a phone UI with a built in social network style feel to it and shows that Nokia’s 20,000 Euro app developer prize could prove worthy of something and may help Nokia create more user friendly UIs in the future. If you want to see the video of the UI in use, you can see it here.
