The Playstation 3 Slim is officially a hit. The numbers have come in and Sony’s latest release has sold over 1 million units worldwide since it’s September 1st release. This has thrown Sony right back in the console wars, which many were declaring over after Nintendo started selling their Wiis like hot cakes and the Xbox 360 was just chugging along.

The sales figures of the PS3 Slim also show that people didn’t hate the PS3 but wanted a cheaper offering from Sony. If this was the original price of the device, even for the fat one, they would have sold millions more, but selling them for over $500 was too much for consumers to pay. I would know, I waited about a year before finally splurging on the fat version. More »

The Playstation 3 Motion Controller is real! The finalized version looks like the only other motion controller out in the market, the Wiimote. Yup, Sony has decided to go with something that’s familiar and people can easily recognize.

The Motion Controller comes with buttons on top with a trigger button at the bottom , a lithium-ion battery, accelermeter, and the rumble technology found in DualShock controllers. There’s also a big ball at the end of it, which is what the Playstation Eye camera tracks for movement. I have to say that, that ball at the end of it just looks stupid and makees the Wiimote look so much better. Either way, I’m still looking forward to the motion controller and hoping it works as well as the Wiimote. More »

Facebook and Twitter have hit all time highs in terms of usage and popularity with Twitter recently hitting the $1 billion value. Both companies have been propelled by the advent of smartphone apps and widgets across other sites. What’s annoyed me most about many of these widgets is the devices they can now be found in, photo frames and televisions.

I don’t know about most users but I don’t want Facebook or Twitter on my TV, that’s what my computer and smartphone is for. For these manufacturing companies, it makes sense to include widgets of the most popular social networks in their devices, they become more attractive to buy but if you’re the consumer, do you really need your photo frame to display all your tweets or do you need to play with your FB account while watching TV? The folks over at Gizmodo have been busy with the latest news of the Microsoft Pink project. They’ve been giving everyone an inside look at some two of the rumored devices from Microsoft. The Two phones, called the Turtle and Pure, have surfaced and they look nothing like the phones you’d think a major tech company should come out with with.

The picture above shows the Turtle and man that looks like a not too original smartphone, too similar to the Palm Pre. At this point, Microsoft is just going to go with what works in the market and not create an innovative phone. All they had to do was take the Zune HD, and find a way to turn that into a phone. The design, couple with the specs and software are much better than what they can release with the Turtle and Pure. More »

The PS3 Slim has already hit 1 million units sold and it’s just getting started. Sony is planning to release a special edition white and pink Final Fantasy Play Station 3 slim for all you die-hard fans.

While I’m not a huge fan of the pink on the white (couldn’t come up with a better color?!), I’d love to have one of those white PS3 Slims in my living room. They’ll be coming to Japan first, and expect to pay a hefty price for it. More »

Looks like the PS3 Motion Controller will be heading to the states sooner than we thought. There’s finally a press shot of the device (after the break) and the actual release date has been confirmed for Spring 2010. I can’t wait for the device to head to the PS 3. It can finally make gaming better. It’s one of the reasons why the Wii was extremely fun to use. Hopefully the Playstation 3 Motion Contorller can capture some of that fun. Here’s the shot, check it out: More »

Yesterday we wrote a post about the Apple Store walk out scheduled for October 3rd at 1 pm due to many complaints about management. In our post, we had a former Apple employee from the 5th Avenue Store leave us a comment and gave us some amazing insight into what management is doing behind the scenes at the Apple store and some of the crazy things happening there. Here’s the entire comment. Please keep in mind, this is the perspective of only one former Apple employee. More »

Looks like there’s trouble brewing in the land of Apple. With Microsoft looking to take away sales staff and managers, they can further that goal with news that Apple employees in Lynwood, Washington are planning a walk out on Saturday October 3rd at 1 pm. The walkout is taking place because employees are are upset at the Lynwood store managers for their “abusive” behavior.

This news will light up the faces of Microsoft as they plan to open up their own retail stores and look to Apple store employees to manage their own stores. The walkout in Washington brings up an interesting question; are all Apple stores managed like this or is this a one time incidence? More »

Google released their Push Gmail service on the iPhone yesterday. Upon hearing the news, I added the feature to my iPhone. It literally took me 10 seconds since I was already pushing my contacts and calendar information. After a few minutes of letting everything sync, I sent myself a few emails and to my disappointment, the Push Gmail service was not any faster than the current pull method Mail was getting emails on my iPhone.

I figured it wouldn’t be perfect in the beginning and so I gave it some time. Later that night, I received emails through the pull and push method and guess what? I had the same issue, the pull method received my emails faster than push. More »

Apple seems to be in the news alot today. Here’s another, but this time it’s about their small war against the Palm Pre.

When the Palm Pre first launched, the developers, some of them which were previous Apple employees, put in a code that made iTunes think it was syncing with an iPod and allowed iPod syncing capabilities. Apple quickly caught on and released an update that removed the feature. Palm responded with an update that allowed the syncing once again. It went back and forth like this for some time before Palm decided to take the matter to USB Implementary Forum, saying Apple is violating the principle of open connectivity. The USB-IF responded today, in favor of Apple, making Palm feel like an idiot for bringing it to the Forum in the beginning. More »

Apple’s new iPod Nano is causing some controversy in the gym. Many gyms are banning the iPod Nano with video because of its recording capability. Gyms are afraid of those dudes, you know those pervs that’ll just have the recorder on while their female counterpart wants to get her workout done. The Nano is small enough to hide almost anywhere.

What makes this whole thing interesting is the fact that many cell phones, especially the iPhone, can take pics and even record video but are they banned from the gym? If I were to take an iPhone 3GS into the gym and start recording, none of the employees would be able to tell unless I was blatantly holding it up, as if I’m taking a picture or recording. More »

This is not so much gadget news but still funny, and very stupid on the part of a mailman. Myles Weathers, a 49-year-old postal worker is facing five years in prison for stealing over 3,000 Netflix DVDs from a Massachusetts distribution center. He was caught after video surveillance showed him stealing the DVD’s.

What my question is, why couldn’t this man just make the copies of the DVD’s and then just put them back. I know many people who burn their Netflix DVD’s on to their computers or through a DVD burner. It’s not a thing that requires much science. If you were planning to do this, you might as well think it through and come up with a good plan. Even if he were to take them, burn it and return it. I doubt many people would have noticed anyway. One of the worst things about the power going out is trying to find a flashlight to light the darkness, so you don’t trip or go tumbling down the steps. Well, Eneloop has taken matters into their hands and are looking to release their new flashlight, which also doubles as a mood lamp. Now, you’ll never lose your flashlight because you’ll know where it is, because it’ll be lighting your room already! The Eneloop can provide white light for 3 hours on a charge, 45 hours as a dim night light, or blue ambient light for 16 hours.

A built in accelerometer knows when you pick the flashlight up, automatically switching to flashlight mode for a solid 6 hours. The design is not so bad either, with its tubular, yet sleek appeal. The Eneloop flashlight was expected to be released September, 11 but still unfortunately remains in the concept stage. More »

Microsoft Courier: the Apple tablet just got bumped into second place

Well, that’s it, I guess. The CrunchPad and Apple Tablet had a good run (in their mysterious ways), but Microsoft has come out of left field to deliver what appears to be the coolest tablet-like computer we’ve ever seen. Those lucky ducks over at Gizmodo appear to have a pretty solid exclusive on it, though, but I’m burning through my little black book of Microsoft guys to get more info…CrunchGear

South Korea clears iPhone for sale

What, you didn’t know you couldn’t buy the iPhone from at least one carrier in all 193 widely-recognized sovereign nations of the world? It’s true; one need look no further than South Korea, one of the most technologically-advanced wireless societies, where much of the growth over the past several years has occurred in a self-imposed bubble thanks to the existence of policies requiring the presence of a custom software layer for connecting to data services — a layer that gave local players like Samsung and LG an almost impenetrable advantage over foreign competition…Engadget

Skype Founders Pull Out the Stops

At the end of August, Skype founders Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis submitted an 11th-hour bid for the Internet-calling business, BusinessWeek.com has learned. The pair, who had sold Skype to eBay (EBAY) in 2005, offered to buy it back for $2.1 billion, according to three people familiar with the situation. The offer was made in conjunction with private equity firm Elevation Partners, one of the people says.

Friis and Zennström were trumped, of course, by a rival bid that valued Skype at $2.75 billion, but their efforts show how far the pair are willing to go to retain control of what makes Skype valuable…BusinessWeek

Get push for Gmail on iPhone, WinMo via Google Sync

It now supports push e-mail for both iPhone OS and Windows Mobile-based devices…ArsTechnica

Netflix Says iPhone App Will Be Coming, It Should Come Out ASAP

Last week, I was hoping and tweeting, there should be a Hulu app for the iPhone so I can watch all the shows returning for the fall, when I’m not near my computer. Of course, there’s rumors floating of a possible Hulu iPhone app but today there was some good news for some iPhone fans, Netflix will be releasing an iPhone, just not right away…Ziggytek

Yesterday I wrote a post about the problems I’ve been having with AT&T and the frustration from it. Today while on the phone, the line went dead and I kept hearing beeps. The person I was on the phone with said they heard the same thing but added that everyone they know that has an iPhone seems to have problems when they’re talking on the phone. The last time I had these problems with my iPhone, I went to the Apple store and they told me everything with the phone is fine. They blamed it on the service (naturally).

I know the iPhone taxes AT&Ts service because of all the data usage but the service on the iPhone is getting worse and worse. Funny thing is when I used my moms AT&T phone to make a call, I heard everything pretty clearly without any problems and she has one of the most basic phones in the world, an old Samsung flip phone.
