I have to give Dell a lot of credit. They never give up even when they churn out flops. On Wednesday, Dell gave us a peek at their new Dell Adamo XPS, an Apple Macbook Air competitor. For those of you don’t remember, Dell has already released an Adamo laptop, which obviously didn’t do well. The new Adamo will be 0.65 (10mm) thick, which is the exact same spec as the Macbook Air, but I’ve been wondering, what is Dell really trying to accomplish with the Adamo? More »

Apple’s Time Capsules croak after 18 months?

Ideally, your backup storage solution, whatever it is, should be the most reliable part of your system. After all, who wants to back up a backup? I’ve never had a drive fail on me, but that hasn’t stopped me from having multiple copies of my music, photos, and miscellaneous junk spread over several external drives…CrunchGear

3rd gen iPod touch gets torn down, 802.11n and possible camera slot found

There’s no denying that Apple let the entire world (yes, even the native Easter Islanders) down by not shoving a camera of some sort into its iPod touch, but if a delicate teardown completed by the screwdriver-wielding fiends over at iFixit is any indication, a seasoned modder could certainly add one…Engadget

How to Make the Best Damn Facebook Notifier for Mac

Facebook just released their first experimental desktop app. It’s a menu-bar add on for Mac OS X called “desktop notifications,” but once it’s installed, it does more than notify–but not much more. You can update your status, as well …Fast Company

DoJ decides that Microsoft-Yahoo deal deserves more scrutiny

As expected, the Justice Department has demanded more information about the Microsoft-Yahoo search deal. Yahoo has less reason to worry than it did when it was courting Google, but at the very least, it will be a while before the deal is approved…Arstechnica

AT&T Likely to Keep iPhone Exclusivity Says Analyst, Verizon May Get Subsidized Tablet?

Looks like the AT&T and Apple marriage might not end in a divorce. According to consultant iSuppli, AT&T will continue to be the exclusive carrier of the iPhone after their contract expires sometime in mid-2010. This news comes from a new report by iSuppli claiming that AT&T is working non-stop to make improvements on their network. While AT&T does their part to keep the iPhone on their network, Apple may be working with other carriers to introduce new products…Ziggytek

Official word out of the Microsoft camp is they will not be selling the Zune HD outside of the United States. A Microsoft spokesperson had this to say to ArsTechnica:

“For the time being the Zune HD device will remain US-only. Right now we are focused on deploying an exciting service in the form of Zune Video to 18 markets. We are looking at potential future hardware experiences for these markets, but do not have anything to announce right now.”

The original Zune never hit the overseas market either. The closest Microsoft came to releasing the Zune was releasing it in Canada and that hardly counts as overseas. After the Zune HD was announced, Microsoft made another announcement earlier this month saying the original Zune models (4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 80GB, and 120GB) were no longer going to be sold, which meant the Zune HD is going to be the only music player available from Microsoft. Has anyone noticed that Google changed their font on their search page? I was surprised to the 20pt font when I’m so accustomed to seeing the 14pt font. At first, I thought something happened to my browser (Firefox has been acting up lately), but after seeing the same change in Safari, I figured it was all Google or they were testing something. A few days later,it looks like the new font size is here to stay.

Personally I prefer the 14pt font over the 20 and think Google should revert back. I guess if many don’t complain about it, Google won’t change it back.

Have you noticed the change in Google’s font size? Do you like the new 20pt font or prefer the smaller 14pt font?

Japan’s Lucky Dragon fishing boat, created by artist Yanobe Kenji is all the buzz at the Aqua Metropolis Festival in Osaka. The boat itself measures out at about 50 feet and supports 23 foot long dragon head that not only spits fire but water as well. The eyes of the dragon light up while it is spitting fire and the yellow wings of the dragon act as sails to keep the boat moving.

The boat will be firing up the canals in the area until the end of the festival on October 12th. The dragon head is more like a crane as it only moves up and down but the fire spitting is what makes this truly amazing. Check out the video after the break. More »

It’s almost time for the 2010 NFL Season Kickoff! Well, not almost but I’m excited for the season to start already, aren’t you?!. I’ll also be spending some time here reading the live blog from our Steelers and Titans bloggers. More »

Apple has released two new ads for their latest devices, the iPod Nano 5G and the iPod Touch 3rd Gen. I like both ads, the Touch a little more probably. You decide after checking out both of them after the break. More »

Last night, I finally got to see the Apple Event from the Apple website. While I followed the event online through live blogging, watching it told me the whole story, it was one of the biggest event disappointments in recent memory.

The iPod Touch didn’t get a camera (like it was heavily rumored), nor did it get any other features. The 5th Generation Nano got a camera, but it doesn’t take still pictures. There was a lot of buzz coming into this year’s Apple iPod Event but it stunk. Steve Jobs got a bigger ovation than the actual products. Remember when Apple introduced the iPhone, iPod Touch, and Macbook Air? That was the kind of ovation Jobs received in his return to the Apple helm. More »

Oprah, the queen of daytime television has decided to give folks a promo code for a $100 off the myTouch 3G with a 2-year T-Mobile contract. For a $100, this is an excellent deal. The promo is: KICKOFF24. Enjoy! More »

The fellas over at iFixit, you know the people who take almost every single gadget and feel the need to tear it into pieces to see what’s inside. They found something absolutely amazing, a camera! I never understood the reason for opening these gadgets up, but they seem to like it, so we’ll go with that. Heres a few pictures: More »

The Macbook Air should be getting ready to brace itself against some serious competition. Dell is getting ready to release their new Adamo XPS line. The computers are less than 10 millimeters thick which is about 0.39 inches. This comes as a surprise because the first Adamo ended up weighing four pounds, a pound and a half more than what people expected. More »

Apple’s gold prize for yesterday’s show was the iPod Nano with its newly packed FM radio with Live Pause, the Voice Over feature, and of course the camera. When rumors began flying through Twitter and other social networking sites that the Nano had a camera, makers of the Flip released their own tiny camcorders. Apple is likely to wn in this game as they already possess a highly desired product and with an improvement like a camera, it’s sure to be a hit. More »

Today is Apple day, so of course Apple news is all over the place. Here’s a wrapup of what happened today at Apple’s iPod Event:

iPhone OS 3.1 brings improved App organization via iTunes 9

Way back in February, when iPhone OS 3.1 was but a distant “dream,” we posted 8 Little Things We Still Can’t Stand About the iPhone. More than half a year has passed and we can finally knock #7, “Arranging applications sucks something terrible,” off the list with the release of iPhone OS 3.1…MobileCrunch

Video: Steve Jobs returns to the Apple stage

At the start of the event today Steve Jobs received a standing ovation from the assembled crowd, and took a moment to thank everybody for their support and encourage us all to be as generous as the organ donor who saved his life. He’s “vertical” now, and claims to be already at work coming up with some “incredible new products” for the future. We’re just glad to have you back, Steve! Video is after the break…Engadget Apple announces iPhone OS 3.1

Steve Jobs announced iPhone OS 3.1 for iPhone and iPod Touch. Beyond bug fixes, it’ll include Bluetooth voice control, remote passcode lock, improved syncing, enhanced iTunes support, direct copy of contact info, new camera APIs, sponsored links in Maps, and improved Exchange calendar syncing.

The best news is, it’s going to be free, and it’s available today…Dvice

iTunes LPs: a preemptive strike against the major labels’ single-file albums

Not long ago, it was revealed that the major players in the music market were working on a single-file album format, by which they could sell you albums at an inflated price but with value added: cover art, videos, interviews, and so on. Of course, Apple was already on that, and now, with the major labels’ “CMX” format still off in the future, Apple has given them a black eye by introducing iTunes LPs…CrunchGear

iTunes 9 breaks Pre media sync… what did you expect?

Here we go again: round umpteen of the fight to break and re-enable Pre syncing with iTunes is now underway thanks to the release of iTunes 9, and we’re sure there’s plenty more where this came from. Endlessly amusing to casual observers, yes, but Pre customers are the ones losing out — sure, Palm might be able fix this in a jiffy (especially since they continue to tout compatibility with the Pixi), but meanwhile, media sync’s out of the picture once more. Stay tuned for more on this as it develops….Engadget
