Google is the new age dictionary. Subconsciously, we use Google to look up the things that people are too lazy to actually search for. Think about it, Google is everywhere. Google is probably your home page and its always in the corner tab on your web browser, although you can switch it to other search engines likes Yahoo!.
Google is the first place most people go to look things up. However, its slowly becoming a problem these days, especially when it comes to spelling and grammar. Whenever a word is misspelled, we can turn to Google to correct it for us. This is why Google is such a big issue in our generation, because it does all of the things we need it to do, from spelling to calculating to converting our math problems, it’s making us lazy. This has led our generation to believe that the best way to find things is to direct search it, which goes to show how much Google is really ingrained in our brains.
The dictionary has been long gone from our memories and indirectly replaced with a technological mirage for what we believe is the right way to go about searching things. It’s what college students turn to when they need to write papers, it’s always available, and its easy to use which is why spelling and grammar is such a small part of our lives, because of how accessible it is on Google. It goes to show how lazy technology has made us, so much so , that we can’t even spell correctly. Google is a part of our everyday lives and its not ready to go just yet, not after murdering the dictionary and softening our vocabulary skills.
Is Google replacing the need for a dictionary? Do you use Google to fix your spelling mistakes?
