I was one of the early adopters of Snow Leopard. I was the first one at my local Apple store to purchase Apple’s new operating system and I had it installed that same morning. Since then, all I have had are complaints. It is making me start to think that Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard might be Apple’s own Windows Vista or Windows ME.

Not all applications are compatible with Snow Leopard. Before the release of SL, Apple advertised that Snow Leopard would free up tons of space on your hard drive. Well, the way they were able to do that was not only by better coding but also removing parts of the operating system. As a result, many programs that worked perfectly in Leopard are just plain broken in Snow Leopard. For me,
Steam games using Crossover that used to run perfectly are now super sluggish. Video playback using codecs like MKV is nearly impossible. Even browsing using Safari can get slow at times. There is now even a site with a compatibility list.

Also, there are reports coming in that Mac OS deletes user data when they use the guest account. Apple doesn’t have an official response; but if it really is the case, it could mean a lot of trouble until a fix is released. Stability and ease of use used to be hallmarks of the Mac experience. Mac’s are just supposed to “work.” I am afraid that it may no longer be true. Lets just hope that the 10.5.2 update that Apple has been seeding to developers will solve some of these problems.
