Not only have eReaders leading to the downfall of books, but now they’re taking it to another level. The latest eReader, the Alex, created by Spring Design, is a dual e-reader and tablet, something the designers are calling a Duet Navigator. The bottom of the device sports a 3.5 inch LCD screen to display bright pictures and the top holds a 6 inch electronic paper screen to display e-ink pages, for longer reading periods.

The ereader runs Google Android and gives the user the option of viewing web pages through WiFi or 3G. This eReader is great for users who want to be able to access the books on the go for heavier reading, but don’t want to give up the web browsing experience.

The Alex allows you to save web pages for later use and allows you to use the web as a reference source. This looks like a great way for Spring Design to set themselves apart in the eReader market, although Spring Design has not yet set a price for the Alex. Spring Design is currently working with content partners in order to make the Alex available by the end of this year. If the price of the Alex is anywhere near the Kindle 2 ($259), then it will be definitely worth it, considering the fact you’re also getting web browsing access.
