The world of advertising works in mysterious ways, it conforms with our everyday lifestyle, trying to sell us products that we subconsciously believe we need. Think about it, advertising is everywhere, when you turn on your TV, on your computer, lit-up billboards along the highway but did you ever stop to think that there was a point in time when technological advertisements didn’t exist? Even before the radio , a product’s name spread only by word of mouth which is why in the 21st century, with lots of influence from technology, advertising holds much power above consumers.
The point of it all is not to jam it down people’s throats, but to have the effect of repetition on it, so when people see one product enough times on the Internet, or on TV, that’s the brand that will constantly come to mind. For example, the brand Post-its has become such a big trademark, that when we see any form of sticky notes, we automatically think that’s what it is, same thing with Clorox or White-out. Advertising, with the help of modern outlets (i.e. the Internet), has become almost second nature in our lives, pushing us to remember specific brands and names, also the reason why e-commerce sites work so well.
Their subliminal advertising quietly reminds us to go that site, giving us reasons on how it will benefit us and what we’ll get out of it. In the advertising world, everything is a big game, companies will give out information about the products if asked, making consumers winners. This is why the Internet and TV are such powerful tools in getting out a brand’s name, because we, the consumers are so reliant on technology to help us find the right choice, that when we see one thing constantly, we tend to remember it.
