This past weekend I got rid of my PlayStation 3 (the fat one) because I just wasn’t using it at all to justify the extra space it takes up on my desk, not to mention the fact that I’m cleaning all the crap out of my room. But I might have changed my mind had I known Netflix will finally be coming to PS 3 gaming consoles. Yup, you heard right, Netflix will be offering streaming service to PS 3 owners starting next month.
As a former PS 3 owner, it would have been one of the few reasons to keep my PS 3 gaming console because I do watch a lot of movies and catch up on previous seasons of TV shows. Not only that but since Hulu is planning to go with a subscription service then, it’s probably best to stick with Netflix because of the video streaming but also the 2-3 DVD’s I get every week for $8.99. If Hulu wants a subscription service, it better be lower than the price Netflix charges for their monthly service or many might just opt for Netflix, which continues to add more TV shows and movies to their list of streaming content.
The PS 3/Netflix streaming will work in a weird way. In order for streaming to actually work on a PS 3 gaming console, Netflix users will receive a special Blu-ray disk from Netflix, which will have to be inserted every time an user wants to stream something from Netflix. It’s a quirky method but I don’t think many users will have a problem, especially if they can get access to the streaming on the console. And plus it beats having to get an XBox live account to even get streaming service.
Look for Netflix streaming to be available starting next month.
