During the weekend, Microsoft subsidiary Danger, the manufacturer of the Sidekick phone and the provider of Sidekick service experienced a serious server problem that resulted in the loss of all 800,000 Sidekick customer’s data. If wasn’t bad enough, there doesn’t seem to be a clear resolution in sight since Danger failed to keep a backup of the data. That is right, they never backed up 800,000 customers data. More »
I was one of the early adopters of Snow Leopard. I was the first one at my local Apple store to purchase Apple’s new operating system and I had it installed that same morning. Since then, all I have had are complaints. It is making me start to think that Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard might be Apple’s own Windows Vista or Windows ME. More »
Google is the new age dictionary. Subconsciously, we use Google to look up the things that people are too lazy to actually search for. Think about it, Google is everywhere. Google is probably your home page and its always in the corner tab on your web browser, although you can switch it to other search engines likes Yahoo!.
Google is the first place most people go to look things up. However, its slowly becoming a problem these days, especially when it comes to spelling and grammar. Whenever a word is misspelled, we can turn to Google to correct it for us. This is why Google is such a big issue in our generation, because it does all of the things we need it to do, from spelling to calculating to converting our math problems, it’s making us lazy. This has led our generation to believe that the best way to find things is to direct search it, which goes to show how much Google is really ingrained in our brains. More »

Two major announcements by graphics giant Nvidia signal a shift of focus.
First, Nvidia announced yesterday that it will be ceasing all development of new chipsets. It is mainly because of a licensing agreement with Intel. In previous Intel computers, the processor (CPU) was connected to a northbridge chip. The north bridge would communicated with the memory (RAM) and an integrated graphics processor. It was also connected to a southbridge via the front side bus (FSB) that communicated with all other parts like the graphics card, sound card, etc.
In new Core i5 and i7 based computers, the CPU took over the duty of the northbridge and the CPU communicates with the southbridge using a proprietary bus called the Digital Media Interface (DMI) bus. Previously, Nvidia had a license to make northbridge and southbridge chips that used the FSB. Now, Intel isn’t giving them a license for the new DMI. So, Nvidia can’t make chipsets for Core i5 and i7 computers. There is ongoing litigation regarding the DMI licensing problem, but it will most likely not end in Nvidia’s favor. More »

Well, a new technological advancement will benefit everyone and will electronically remind them to take their meds no matter where they are. More »

Technology research and consulting firm, the Yankee Group warns that mobile service providers are losing profits because they use heavy subsidies to attract customers. If you don’t know what carrier subsidies are, then I’ll explain. Mobile phone carriers offer phones that usually cost $100 to $600, but they always offer a 2 year contract price. Basically, the carrier pays the manufacturer of the phone the majority of the price and you only pay a small fraction. The carriers do this because they have you locked into a contract and they will end up breaking even. More »
