Rogers Wireless is no longer the exclusive provider of the iPhone in Canada as Bell Canada and Telus announced today that they will both start carrying the iPhone 3G and 3GS this November. This seems to be slowly becoming a trend, since other countries already have iPhones available on multiple carriers.
It is definitely looking like this year is the beginning of the end to iPhone exclusivity. With all the rumors of the iPhone landing in other carriers like Verizon, the iPhone just might be on the road to becoming ubiquitous like the Motorola RAZR V3. Click to read the full press releases below.

CrunchGear reports that according to a tipster, Dell’s first mobile phone The Mini 3i, will be coming to the United States. The mini 3i was originally China only, but apparently Dell wants to bring the Mini 3i stateside to compete with Android offerings from HTC, Motorola and Samsung.
The tipster also stated that the phone was “cheap and plasticky, like the Pre.” It will purportedly carry a 5 megapixel camera instead of the 3 megapixel unit found in its Chinese brother and run a modified version of Android that may not support all applications.
All this Android news these days is exciting; but will Dell actually be a serious competitor? Their last portables like the Axim PDA and the Jukebox MP3 player were utter failures. I think they need to find the spirit that makes their Mini series of netbooks so successful and build a cell phone that embodies that spirit.
CES 2009 bought many gadgets to the forefront of technological advancement but the one that made a big impression was the Powermat charger. The Powermat charger is one of the few devices that uses wireless electricity through induction with successful results.
The Powermat charger is a thin platform that charges your gadgets through the induction case that comes with it, no wires necessary. The mat itself costs $100 and the case comes for an extra $40 which is not a lot to pay, considering how much time and energy it will save you. The only downside to this is the limitation of devices so unless you own an iPhone, iPod Touch, Nintendo DS, or Blackberry, you have to buy a separate adapter in order for the Powermat to charge you gadgets. External hard drives are getting smaller and more advanced everyday, but in order to do this, many companies shed the style. Well, some hope has come for those who are in the market for an external hard drive. The new LaCie by Philippe Starck packs quite a punch, with its chrome mobile and desktop drives that LaCie is calling “sculptured magma”.
The LaCie looks downright amazing. The chrome finish shows off the LED Philippe Starck logo and houses tech that is reliable, fast, and rather cheap. A 1TB desktop model of this shiny goodness will cost you $130, while a 2TB model will cost you $250. This is a lot cheaper than other hard drives and offers even more storage. More »
According to the Share Skype Blog, AT&T will start allowing Skype usage over 3G. This comes after months of complaints from iPhone and Skype users. I think that this is a step in the right direction for the the company that has been criticized for blocking Skype and Google Voice on the iPhone.
It could also potentially be a game changer. Voice over IP on the best-selling smartphone will change the way most people use their phones. If I had an iPhone, I would probably downgrade my voice plan in a jiffy.
Now, we just need to wait to see if the recent rumors of Google Voice also being unblocked are true.
The new deal between Verizon and Google is supposed to “”deliver leading-edge mobile applications, services and devices.” In other words, it’ll bring Google’s OS and applications over to Verizon’s 3G network. The phones may be similar to the phones HTC has created with Google’s Android serving as the OS.
Everyone in their right mind knows this deal was created to compete with Apple and AT&T. While Google and Verizon will be hoping to create an open network, but there may be some limitations because of Verizon’s previous track record. Verizon is notorious for including their OS in phones, crippling the phone. While that may not be the case here, since Google will obviously be including their Android OS in the phones, Verizon may still want some apps or functions disabled. This is no different than what AT&T did by asking Apple not to include some Apps in their App Store. More »
Verizon and Google had a press conference today to announce that they will be collaborating to bring Android phones to America’s largest CDMA carrier.
Though in the press release, all they said were vague statements like “Verizon Wireless and Google today announced a strategic partnership that will leverage the Verizon Wireless network and the best of the Android open platform to deliver leading-edge mobile applications, services and devices,” and “The two industry leaders will create, market and distribute products and services, with Verizon Wireless also contributing the breadth of its nationwide distribution channels.” More »

According to Neowin.net, a list of 10,000 Hotmail email accounts starting with A and B was posted on a site called Pastebin. The leak affects users that have emails ending in @hotmail.com, @live.com and @msn.com.
The leak was officially confirmed by Microsoft to be not the result of a breach of Microsoft data but possibly the result of a phishing scheme.
It is suggested that if you have a Hotmail account, then you should change your password immediately. Heck, while you are at it, change all of your passwords. You can never be too safe.

The iPhone has been getting many competitors but no one is more worthy of a battle than the Nokia N900 which was unveiled late August. The Maemo OS flagship smart phone/MID mini tablet device, dubbed the N900, was created to have “Computer grade performance” and it’s obvious that it’s living up to this claim.
Nokia jumped onto the touchscreen smart phone wagon and lost to the iPhone but its making a comeback with a powerful phone and UI, which uses many gesture from the iPhone but still carries its own significance. One great gesture on the N900 is the “Hover and Manipulation mode” which is great when handling web pages on the iPhone sized, 3.5 inch screen. (Check out video after the break) More »
ROP (Retinopathy of prematurity) is one of the main causes of vision loss in children and no technological advancement has helped, until now. Engineers at Duke University have introduced a handheld device to find and monitor ROP diagnosis and treatment, which is a cause for blindness in premature babies.
With this device, the scientists have managed to create a 3-D image of the back of the eye which could help find serious medical conditions in an infant’s eyes. The device creates a high resolution 3-D map of the eyeball layers, similar to looking into the side of a fish tank and seeing everything in detail. This new device can take pictures up to 40x faster than an average opthalmoscope which is rather slow at identifying eye conditions. This can help identify eye conditions faster and could end up saving many lives. The device is currently being tested by Duke Eye Center ophthalmologist, Cynthia Toth to decide what it can do when it comes to treatment decisions regarding eye conditions. Amazing stuff!

The Apple app store presents a diverse range of app choices for the average iPhone user but there are just too many for one person to use. There are so many choices for users to look at, that they end up not buying any apps and that ends up hurting Apple’s sales in the end. What Apple needs to do is arrange the app store in a way where users can easily access multiple apps and review them quickly. Dvice had their list of 12 steps to improve the App Store, we think 10 of them should suffice, so here they are: More »
Watch phones seemed impossible a few years ago, many phones were on the cusp of improvement and no one thought “small”. Well, here comes the next best watch phone after the LG GD910. This one comes from Kempler &Strauss, and revolutionizes the size of the watch phone and calls itself “the smallest watch phone”, which may in fact be true.
The W PhoneWatch features a touchscreen interface, 4GB of built in storage, a camera for still pictures or video recording, and an SD card slot for data storage. The PhoneWatch sells for $199, unlocked, starting today. Unfortunately, there is no mention of 3G or EDGE for the small device.
