The Swedish government is following close behind Finland, promising its citizens that they will provide broadband Internet to all. Sweden’s IT-Ministry promised the citizens that 90% of the homes in Sweden will have access to 100mbit/s broadband connection to 2020. Now, while that sounds like a long time away, it is progress, more than the American government would do for its citizens.
Sweden said that the reason for this promise is because “it is impossible to be connected to the information society without the Internet”. Sweden will be implementing their new Internet plan soon, which will make progress until it hits 90% in 2020. These days, the minimal level is 20 kbit/s, which is nothing when downloading tons of tons of movies and songs. Currently, 89% of households in Sweden already have Internet connection. With Sweden’s new plan, it should be more than enough to cover the entire country.

The highest “affordable” download speed we have in Australia is around 20mbit/s..
