Sometimes a gadget’s only claim to fame is being the first to do something. After that, they fade into darkness, an unfortunate road bump in the pursuit of better tech. Fortunately, this gizmo isn’t one of those cases.

According to Hot Hardware, the world’s first USB 3.0 drive has been released. And since 3.0 is better than 2.0 you know it’s got to be good. Super Talent announced their new SuperSpeed USB 3.0 RAIDDrive.

So what’s all the hubbub about? Nothing much, except that the tiny 95 x 37 x13 mm drive supports data transfer speeds up to ten times faster than our current 2.0 models. Yeah, I thought that might get your attention. Using patented “multiple pairs of differential serial data lines technology”, the RAIDDRive gives the fastest possible transfers. However it should be noted that this speed will only be showcased in actual USB 3.0 ports. If used in a 2.0 port, it will function at the same speed as our regular or 2.0 sticks.

While not currently on the market, be prepared to be picking up one of these bad boys in 32, 64, or 128GB variety. The Super Speed will be releasing in December, hopefully right before the holidays because this would make an excellent stocking stuffer for the techie in your life. Or hell, gift one to yourself. You have to treat yourself to something nice every now and then and speedy tech is the gift that keeps on giving.
