So I posted yesterday about how The Beatles are putting their entire record library onto an apple shaped USB for $279. As I was navigating the blogosphere, I saw Wired’s article about BlueBeat.com, a previously unknown music site that has been selling The Fab Four’s tuneage without their permission. As I read it, a line from Jay-Z’s “Friend or Foe 98″ kept playing in my head: “But I was like “Nah”, Homes had to know he was wrong. And if you caught me on the foul know you would sing me the same song.”

After Wired narced on BlueBeat to EMI and Apple Corp about the unlicensed distribution, the lawyers were promptly summoned and the site subsequently sued. So to find out that the little site that could continues to sell Beatles tracks like they were going out of style, I have to wonder about the site owner’s sanity. After watching that knock out drag out that The Beatles had with Apple over the fruit shaped logo, do they think they’re actually going to get away with selling tracks illegally?

There’s hasn’t been a peep from the folks over at BlueBeat. As an American, part of me wants to root them on for their Boston Tea Party guerilla tactics, but the sensible part of me knows that if they don’t cease and desist soon, The Beatles aren’t going to have “Words of Love” for the site. Because contrary to their fourth album, The Beatles aren’t for sale…unless Apple Corps and EMI says so.
