Usually I’m not a fan of digital photo frames. They were cool when they came out, a functional way to do something with those hundreds of photos you’d taken but never had the initiative to get put on a disk or get printed. As time’s gone by companies have felt the need to slap on more and more features including radio and a dedicated weather center to make their product stand out in the crowd.
Isabella Products may have just restored my faith in the digital photo frame as sensible tech. According to Engadget, the company will be shipping Vizit, the “first two-way, fully interactive digital photo frame” in early 2010. That’s right folks, this photo frame will be able to send and receive photos via email, text, or image sharing sites like Flickr. If a family member or friend has a Vizit frame you can transfer files directly using Vizit-to-Vizit transfer. Every Vizit owner will also have their own Vizitme.com account so they can manage their photos including archiving, adding captions and inviting family and friends to view their latest masterpieces.
The Vizit frame stays connected to the internet with its GSM/GPRS quad-band connectivity with internal antenna. Isabella has made a deal to have Vizit be an AT&T exclusive, using their wireless network to handle all the wild photo swapping that will be going on. I wonder if this like iPhone will stay exclusive to one network. If so, AT&T may just have another cash cow on its hands.
The 10.4-inch frame with 800×600 resolution has the prerequisite touchscreen complete with icons and easy to use navigation system. You can And while you’ve probably got some great photos, the frame isn’t too shabby either. Available in Silver Finish with White Accent, Silver Finish with Teak Accent, Charcoal Finish with Rosewood Accent or Charcoal Finish with Black Accent, it’s a nice addition to any desk or living room table.
The suggested retail price for the frame is $279.99 with a monthly or annual photo service fee. If you’re interested in being the first kid on the block with a Vizit, you can get purchase info on their site.
