What’s not to love about the new Dell Inspiron Zino HD? It’s compact, cheap, and cute to boot. The 7.75- x 7.75- x 3.5-inch mini-PC is finally gracing store shelves after making us wait for what seemed like eons.
The basic configuration of the Zino will only set you back a wallet-friendly $229. A basic setup includes 2GB of RAM, a single-core 1.6GHz AMD Athlon 2650e CPU, a 250GB hard drive, and an ATI Radeon HD3200 graphics card. It’s a little scant but you can upgrade to up to 8GB of RAM, an AMD Athlon Neo X2 6850e graphics card, and up to 1TB of hard drive space. Unfortunately, there’s no wireless capability on the cheapest version of the Zino so you’ll definitely adding that to the menu in the form of a Dell 1397 802.11 b/g Wireless Card. Tricking the box out will cost your more than $229 of course, but it won’t break your pockets. And seriously, that’s a decent amount of power in such a small box.
The 3.5 beauty is available in 10 colors and features two USB ports and a 4-in-1 card reader in the front. Heading up the rear are ports for VGA and HDMI. There’s also a microphone jack and a few other goodies back there. A DVD burner is also included in the base price, but there’s also room for the optional wireless keyboard mouse and rumored TV tuner which according to Engadget won’t be shipping with launch. That really bums me out, but hopefully Dell won’t keep us waiting too long on that one. I, for one would love to have this baby filling the role of my HTPC.
